Atlas: Walking Like a Human and Flipping Like a Gymnast

Boston Dynamics’ Atlas has swapped the parkour for the catwalk, debuting an unnervingly fluid new gait on the CES 2026 stage. Thanks to a fresh whole-body learning framework developed alongside the RAI Institute, the humanoid can now pivot between high-octane athletic manoeuvres and a robust, human-like stride with ease. The real breakthrough, however, lies under the bonnet: these behaviours are porting directly from simulation to the physical hardware with zero real-world fine-tuning—marking a quiet, yet profound, revolution for generalist robotics.
