BYD’s Yangwang U9 electric supercar has, with a flourish only a truly sentient machine could muster, apparently decided that potholes are strictly for the unwashed masses and their decidedly earthbound conveyances. This driverless marvel, performing what can only be described as a digital ballet of automotive defiance, was seen autonomously soaring over a good six metres of tarmac craters at a blistering 74.5 mph. All thanks to its frankly bonkers DiSus-X active suspension, the U9 demonstrates a feature that is either a veritable quantum leap in urban navigation for our notoriously ‘characterful’ roads, or, let’s be honest, the most spectacularly costly party trick ever pulled out of a hat. Either way, your move, Tesla. The gauntlet, or perhaps the very road itself, has been thrown.
