In what can only be described as a spectacularly ill-advised career move, one Frankie Lapenna recently found himself stepping into a ring to face off against a 6-foot (1.83-metre), 90-kilogram robot. This metal behemoth, by the way, wasn’t just for show; it packed a registered kick force of 850 pounds. Hosted by REK Robot, this inaugural human-robot dust-up offered a rather grim – albeit hilariously daft – sneak peek at what might just happen when your smart fridge finally decides it’s had enough of your questionable snack choices. Crucially, the whole affair was pitched as completely unscripted, which meant the future of humanity (or at least, the evening’s entertainment) hinged entirely on a chap with, by his own humble account, “minimal fight experience.”
