LimX Dynamics recently rolled out its Oli humanoid, proudly proclaiming it had its ‘first full conversation.’ Though, if we’re being brutally honest, it was less a two-way street and more a rather one-sided exercise in human instruction, with Oli largely being told what to do. The robot, bless its circuits, complied with an unsettling, almost frightening efficiency, hitting every mark with dead-on precision. Then, just to put the tin hat on it, it broke into a celebratory jig – a performance that subtly but unmistakably suggested its human choreographers might soon find themselves surplus to requirements.
